Kushiroid tells the story of a ruined city.

In the east of Hokkaido lies the city of Kushiro. Once a thriving port city, it is now battered by time. With a declining population and a wavering economy, a few monuments stand as witnesses to the downfall, while the city center is riddled with neglected lots. Disillusion reigns. Kushiro is a symptom of a modernity that abandons the urban spaces that no longer serve its purpose.

This work attempts to capture an urbanity that sways along with its history. Photography serves as the tool that probes the discomfort of a city unsure of its place in the shifting sands of time.
