These background systems help shape the area’s uses, accessibility, and perception. Sometimes reassuring, sometimes limiting, these surveillance tools continuously produce residual images, automatic, uninterrupted, unjudging, and seemingly without time limit. Like an invisible, constant presence, parallel images of these real spaces come to exist somewhere, as if by superimposition.
